Copeland Childs Blue Hearts Toy Dinner Set Veg Tureen Staffordshire 1891
Ironstone Dolls Dinner Set Veg Tureen
Late Spode Staffordshire, England c 1891
This is a wonderful miniature child's dinner set vegetable tureen, circa 1891. The oval bowl measures 5 inches long with a 1 inch deep well, decorated along the rims in a country blue trailing vine of heart shaped flowers. In Doris Lechler’s book ‘English Toy Dishes’, the pattern is referred to as COPELAND HEARTS.
Marked with the backstamp of W.T. Copeland (late Spode), a pottery manufactory in the Staffordshire region of England in the mid-to-late 19th century known for its fine transfer printed ceramics. The tureen has the look and feel of an especially fine soft paste earthenware.
The piece is in great condition especially considering it has been well played with by generations of children. No chips cracks or repairs. There are minor transfer skips, stilt marks and other typical making flaws original to the making, adding to the authenticity and the naive charm. Sold as shown.
Copeland's miniature tea sets and early toy table wares are hard to find. The plate will make a stunning addition to any collection of children's dishes, and would also make a fantastic and unique doll house accessory. We have also listed other early toy table and tea wares. Mix and match for a lovely display! We are always happy to combine shipping of multiple purchases.
